Barack Obama: We Need You, Texas

Obama packs the Toyota Center

February 20th, 2008 Posted in News | No Comments »

An estimated 19,000 Houstonians watched as Barack Obama gave his Wisconsin victory speech and rallied local supporters. Many of the attendees waited in line for three hours or more for a chance to see the Senator from Illinois in person. As the Houston Chronicle notes:

The sense of sharing a significant political moment was almost palpable, with Obama in good position to become the first black candidate to capture the presidential nomination of a major party.

“We’re watching history,” said Susan Lewis of Spring. “This movement is cross-cultural — all ages and cultures and genders. I’m old enough to know the political system we have has gotten so ugly and rancorous we’re tearing ourselves apart. People are hungry for change. I’m a 61-year-old woman who’s been waiting for a woman president, but Hillary is too much a part of the establishment.”

And congratulations to one of our own Obama Outreach Houston members, Sue Deigaard. She gave a great speech at the rally talking about her personal experiences with the campaign here in Houston.

Thanks to all the local volunteers and the national campaign for putting on a great event!

Early Voting Starts Today!

February 19th, 2008 Posted in Events, News | No Comments »

Polls opened at 8:00 this morning. Because of the expected high turnout, we encourage everyone to vote early to avoid lines on March 4th.

If you are registered to vote in Harris County you can vote early at any polling place in the county. A map with polling locations and hours can be found here.

And don’t forget, voting early is only the first step in the”Texas Two-Step”. You still need to go to your precinct polling location on March 4th at 7:00 pm to caucus for Obama. Because of the way Texas allocates delegates for the national convention, it’s very important that you do both.

So go vote and encourage you friends, neighbors and co-workers to do the same!

Texas polls continue to tighten

February 18th, 2008 Posted in News | No Comments »

The latest CNN/Opinion Research Corp poll shows a statistical tie between Senator Clinton and Senator Obama, 50% to 48%.  This continues the trend of tightening polls that we have seen over the last few weeks.

This is great news and shows that we have the momentum, but it will take action by you to put him over the top! Early voting starts tomorrow and there are lots of ways to get involved.
