Update from Chicago
It has been announced that Juan Sepulveda will be heading up the Obama campaign here in Texas. In a statement from Juan issued by the campaign, he said, “Our priority is expanding our strong grassroots movement for change across the state so we can help Democrats up and down the ticket and win the White House in November.” We anticipate the arrival of the Houston staff in the next couple of weeks.

Precinct Captains
We are beginning the process of organizing the volunteer precinct organizers (formerly precinct captains) for the fall. If you are interested in organizing volunteers within your precinct for the general election, please send your name, phone number, email address, precinct number and house district number to houston@houstonforbama.com.
What you can do to help NOW:
1. Get deputized to legally register voters, if you have not already done so. Voter Registration continues to be our number one priority. The more registered voters in Houston the more potential votes for Obama.
First Metropolitan Church is hosting a deputy registrar training on Saturday, August 23, at 3:00 p.m. at 8870 W Sam Houston Parkway. For more information call 713-983-7878 or visit http://my.barackobama.com/page/event/detail/communityservice/44bqj
2. Register Voters
Participate in a group Voter Registration drive organized by Houston for Obama or by Houston Votes, find other supporters in your community that are hosting drives through my.barackobama.com, or organize a drive in your own neighborhood.
One important note on voter registration, the campaign has asked Houston for Obama to send them data on all new voters registered in Houston by our volunteers. After you register voters, please input your data into the Voter Registration Information Form that can be downloaded here. Once data is entered, please email it to Houston@houstonforobama.com. This information will then be given to Obama for America staff for their database and is essential to the success of the campaign here in Houston. They will be using this data to reach out to those new voters in the fall during GOTV (Get Out the Vote). Please note this information will NOT be added to the Houston for Obama database. Therefore, if you register anyone that would like to be added to our mailing list, please send that information separately. If you do not want to share the information on the voters you have registered with Houston for Obama, please enter the data into the template and hang on to it until the staff arrives. Then please just send us your name, phone number, email address and number of voters you have registered so the staff can get in touch with you for the data when they arrive.
